R. Lee Wrights Urges Americans to Join the Million Vote March and Vote Libertarian to Stop All War
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wrights Urges Americans to Join the Million Vote March and Vote Libertarian to Stop All War
BURNET, Texas (Feb. 23) – The Lee Wrights for President campaign has launched another project to help win votes for the Libertarian Party and Libertarian candidates in 2012. The Million Vote March (www.millionvotemarch) is an effort to achieve a historic one million votes for the Libertarian candidate for President, and to encourage people to vote for all Libertarian candidates on the ballot.
"This is not a march on Washington. It is not a march on your state capitol. It is not even a march on city hall," said R. Lee Wrights. "It is simply a march to your local voting precinct on November 6, 2012 – a march to vote for liberty, to vote for freedom, to vote for peace, to vote for prosperity, a march to vote Libertarian to stop all wars."
In 2010, one million Americans voted for a Libertarian candidate for Congress. But the Libertarian Party has never received one million votes for its candidate for President of the United States. Edward Clark earned the highest vote total for a Libertarian presidential candidate in 1980. He got just over 900,000 votes.
Wrights said that he decided to launch this project because he's convinced that the Americans are tired of war and eager to hear and vote for candidates who want to stop all war. "I believe that Americans are tired of the ruling elites, the political and corporate special interest that profit from death and destruction," he said.
"I can't believe there are not at least one million people in America who want to stop all war, who want to stop killing other people," Wrights said. "I can't believe there are not at least one million people in America who want peace and the prosperity it brings."
Stop all war has been the theme of his campaign, but Wrights vowed to continue The Million Vote March project even if he is unsuccessful in his bid for the Libertarian presidential nomination.
"The Million Vote March is not about any candidate; it is about the libertarian message, a message I believe Americans are waiting to hear," he said. "Just as I'm convinced that there are at least one million people who want to stop war, I'm convinced that there are at least one million people – or more – who are eager to hear and embrace a libertarian message of peace and prosperity. All we Libertarians have to do is deliver that message properly."
"Only the Libertarian Party is committed to peace," he said. "People can only vote for liberty if they vote Libertarian. They can only get peace if they vote Libertarian."
"In The Million Vote March, no vote will be lost, no vote will be wasted, and you won't have to vote for the 'lesser of two evils,'" he explained. "Best of all, you will be able to vote for something, not against something. You will be able to vote for a principle – the libertarian idea of maximum freedom and minimum government."
This is the second project designed to help Libertarian candidates undertaken by the Wrights campaign. It's also producing 30-second TV spots and offering them free of charge to Libertarian candidates and affiliates. Each spot will be customizable, with a 10-second segment to insert a local message. The spots will emphasize a principled libertarian position on a single topic.
In addition to these projects, Wrights has pledged that ten percent of all donations to his campaign will be used for ballot access so that the Libertarian message is heard in all 50 states in 2012.
R. Lee Wrights, 53, a libertarian writer and political activist, is seeking the presidential nomination because he believes the Libertarian message in 2012 must be a loud, clear and unequivocal call to stop all war. To that end he has pledged that 10 percent of all donations to his campaign will be spent for ballot access so that the stop all war message can be heard in all 50 states. Wrights is a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party and co-founder and editor of the free speech online magazine Liberty For All. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., he now lives and works in Texas.

Bill of Rights Under Attack in Name of Security
Constitution Killers
February 22, 2012
Contact: Christina Tobin (312) 320-4101
Vital freedoms afforded under the Bill of Rights have been stripped by Section 1021 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), passed by Congress and signed into law, January 1, 2012.
The small section is easy to miss when reading through the 565 page Bill, but it's potent. It authorizes the use of military force and indefinite detention without trial against anyone, including United States citizens, if suspected of "hostilities" against the US. This is a direct violation of due process, afforded under the Bill of Rights.
Post-9/11, Congress panicked and authorized stunning new government instruments including the Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act, which encroach upon privacy, civil liberties, and basic human dignity. The State is now further strengthened by Section 1021.
From police harassment of peaceful Occupy Rochester protesters to the proposed introduction of national identification cards, the reach and legal authority of the government to invade the privacy and individual civil liberties of the American people has grown, seemingly without bound and without warrant.
We surrender even more of our civil liberties to the government's lure of safety and security. TSA gropes our children, our elders are stripped of human dignity by invasive bodily searches, and all American travelers are treated as potential criminals. Still the question remains, have these demeaning protocols made us safer?
Americans are beginning to wake and defend against Orwellian legislation like NDAA. In a unified group, members of the tea party, occupy movement, and Libertarians protested NDAA, particularly Section 1021, February 13, 2012, in Medford, Oregon. Additionally, freshman Congressman Jeff Landry (R-LA) proposed a bill to overturn the highly unconstitutional Section 1021, as did Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX).
"When will we stop fixing elections and start fixing the electoral process by electing representatives who stand for freedom and the Constitution?" asks Christina Tobin, founder and chair of The Free and Equal Elections Foundation. "Our freedoms are under attack by our own government and it is our duty as citizens to remind our elected officials of their duty to us."

Isn’t it time to call Congress while you still have a legal voice?
Your Bill of Rights has been stripped by Section 1021 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), signed into law January 1, 2012.
The small section is easy to miss when reading through the 565 page Bill, but it’s potent.
It authorizes the use of military force and indefinite detention without trial against anyone, including United States citizens, if suspected of “hostilities” against the US.
Is this a declaration of war against the citizens of the United States? It IS a direct violation of due process, afforded under the Bill of Rights.
Post-9/11, Congress panicked and authorized stunning new government instruments including the Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act, which encroach upon privacy, civil liberties, and basic human dignity. The State is now further strengthened by Section 1021.
From police harassment of peaceful Occupy Rochester protesters to the proposed introduction of national identification cards, the reach of Government to diminish the liberties of Americans keeps growing, and growing FAST.
We surrender even more of our civil liberties to the government’s lure of safety and security. TSA gropes our children, our elders are stripped of human dignity by invasive bodily searches, and all American travelers are treated as potential criminals.
Question: have these demeaning measures really made us safer?
Americans are waking. In a unified group, members of the tea party, occupy movement, and Libertarians protested NDAA, particularly Section 1021, February 13, 2012, in Medford, Oregon. Congressman Jeff Landry (R-LA) has proposed a bill to overturn unconstitutional Section 1021. Of course, so did heroic Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX).
“Let’s stop the election fixing, and start fixing the electoral process! We can elect representatives who stand for freedom and the Constitution!” thundered Christina Tobin, founder and chair of The Free and Equal Elections Foundation. “Our freedoms are under attack by our own government! It’s time to remind Congress, of its duty to the Constitution.”

Diane Feinstein Replies to the Open Letter on NDAA
Dear Mr. Perry:
Thank you for writing to express your concerns about the detention provisions in the "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012." I appreciate knowing your views and welcome the opportunity to respond.
This year's defense authorization bill authorizes funding for the U.S. Department of Defense. As you know, section 1021 authorizes the U.S. government to detain suspected terrorists until the end of hostilities, and section 1022 requires suspected terrorists connected to al Qaeda be automatically detained in military custody when apprehended.
I strenuously opposed both these provisions during Senate debate and offered amendments to prohibit the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens without trial or charge and to clarify that the presumption of military detention only exists for individuals captured abroad.
Unfortunately, on December 1, 2011, one of my amendments failed by a vote of 45-55 in the Senate.
I was, however, able to reach a compromise with the authors of the defense bill to state that no existing law or authorities to detain Americans are changed by section 1021. While I would have preferred to have restricted the government's ability to detain U.S. citizens without charge, this compromise ensures the government's authority in this area does not expand.
I continue to believe that Congress should explicitly prohibit indefinite military detention without charge or trial. To that end, I have introduced the "Due Process Guarantee Act" (S. 2003) to guarantee that a congressional authorization for military force does not usurp the right to due process for American citizens apprehended on U.S. soil.
A bipartisan group of senators have cosponsored this important legislation that will preserve this fundamental American right. The legislation has been referred to the Judiciary committee where it will be the subject of an upcoming hearing.
Americans all across the country believe, as you do, that the government cannot indefinitely detain American citizens inside this country without trial or charge. Since you cared enough to write me about this important issue, I'm going to ask for your help. Please continue to speak out and contact members of Congress
urging them to support the "Due Process Guarantee Act." We need your help.
Once again, thank you for your letter. I am committed to ensuring that our nation has the appropriate tools to combat terrorism, and committed to upholding our fundamental constitutional rights. If you have any additional comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

A Reply to Inquiries about the BTP
As chair of a minor political party, I occasionally get emails from people with inquiries about the party. I normally respond to these messages privately, however I recently received two emails with inquiries that were really just anti-libertarian talking points. The messages are posted below as I received them:
“just why do you want to shut down the fed? how about removing troops? i'll be a part of the unemployed if you succeed, that would look great for a presidential campaign, wouldn't it? laws put in place that 'intrude on privacy' are put there to prevent another 9/11 from happening, want one of those on your records?”I will do my best to respond to these messages and the questions asked.
“you and your fellow partymen are truly insane. you need a military to protect the country from events like 9/11, remember that???? you have two chioces (sic), you can stand behind our troops or you can feel free to stand in front of them.”
Why do I want to shut down the fed?
Quite simply, I oppose central banking. To go a little further, I oppose any business or agency having a government backed monopoly over any industry or service. Not only do I want the Federal Reserve abolished, I would like to see the postal monopoly removed, energy monopolies repealed and all other government backed monopolies repealed. If this is truly the “land of the free” then people should be free to choose what currency to use, who delivers their mail, and how they get electricity and every other good and service.
Why do I want to bring home the troops?
There are several reasons I want the troops brought home. First, there is no legitimate reason to have troops stationed around the world. Keeping troops around the world is just one way in which the federal government flexes its muscle as “Policeman of the World.”
Secondly, there is no evidence that keeping troops around the world “keeps us safe.” However, there is evidence that invading countries and keeping troops around the world creates more enemies.
Finally, the federal government directly spends over $600 billion per year on “defense” (which includes the cost of keeping approximately 369,000 American troops in 159 foreign nations and territories) and nearly $1 trillion total on foreign policy.
Regarding the comments about military protecting the country from “events like 9/11,” I will ask: “If the military is supposed to protect us from these events, why did they happen in the first place?” Some people will say that the federal government was involved in 9/11, others say that the federal government allowed 9/11 to happen, while other people say that 9/11 happened because “we're free.” After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the federal government had the vast majority of Japanese-Americans arrested and placed in “internment camps” due to the fear that they were spies. During both World War I & II many people of German descent were arrested for the “crime” of speaking German in public. None of these infringements on individual rights kept anyone safe. Instead, such laws and the laws passed since 9/11 to “intrude on privacy” are only creating criminals; not because people are terrorists, but rather because they unknowingly violate a law.
I will not respond to the hyperbolic suggestion that I stand in front of the troops.
As a supporter of voluntary association, I support your right to live in a country with a tyrannical government; I simply ask that you do not force your government on me!
